Always keen to set himself new challenges, Marc Pampe has now followed up Mushara Lodge and Mushara Villas with the Mushara Outpost. The Outpost has been fashioned from the shell of an old and completely revamped farmhouse.....

.... Huge glass windows, left open during the day, look out onto an immense terrace and manicured lawns, which slope down to the swimming pool and its mown edges. The large living space, painted in white from ground to ceiling, is bounded at each end by contemporary double-hearth fireplaces. The décor is sophisticated, with great care taken over the detail: antique furniture and African masks, superb black-and-white photos of wild life, oriental ceiling lights, lamps made of porcupine quills, metal jars. There are nooks where you can hide away to read the many books on art and photography, or to play chess. This house achieves that rare combination of making you feel at home despite the service which is discreet and attentive. In the evenings, the lodge seems enchanted, its whiteness warmed by many lights; you are invited both to dream… and to an excellent dinner. An alley below leads to very comfortable tents built opposite a dry, tree-bordered riverbed. They have king-size 4-poster beds, wood-and-glass paneled bathrooms opening onto nature and stilted verandahs. The Mushara Outpost has just one fault: one feels so well looked-after here it is hard to extract oneself in the morning to go and explore the Etosha Park which is just next-door!
