Huab is steeped in serenity, and what a warm welcome! In 1992, Suzi and Jan, both keen birders and conservationists, began rehabilitating this mountainous, overgrazed farmland of 8,000 hectares. Waterholes were constructed and fences removed so that the harassed desert-dwelling elephant and re-introduced game could roam freely once more.....

...... and today their vision has become a reality. Tall grasses sway in the mopane and acacia woodlands and the number of wild animals has exploded. Over 200 bird species occur including nine of Namibia’s desert endemics. While the architecture echoes the mountains, flair and imagination are evident in the décor. A natural rock outcrop is integrated into the main building with its soaring thatched roof and open sides. Everyone gathers here for delicious meals, served at the family table and enjoyed together with your hosts; or to spot the stars with the help of various telescopes. The cottages are bright and very comfortable, with huge windows and beautiful bathrooms where you can contemplate nature while you shower. Everything is arranged to encourage relaxation: spaciousness, light, wellness treatments, natural thermal pool, a swimming pool, birding hide, peace. There is no piped music, just the song of the birds, cicadas, barking geckos and frogs. Jan and his team are knowledgeable guides who will captivate your interest for the smaller aspects of nature, what he calls “the bushman newspaper”. Trips with Jan’s own registered safari company to Etosha, Etendeka and a Himba settlement can be arranged in advance.
