Some places, and Zebra River Lodge is one, seem to be blessed by the gods! From the road there is no hint of the dramatic beauty of this 12,500-hectare property in the heart of the Tsaris Mountains. Having visited several times, I have still not explored all of the hiking trails there; the most spectacular of these crosses a canyon almost as deep as that of Fish River (just 60m less), at the end of which is a magic spring surrounded by centenary ficus trees.....

.... The Limestone Mountains are beautifully striated and form terraces with an abundance of unusual fauna and flora including comiphora and moringa trees. Not only is this one of the oldest and most fascinating landscapes in Namibia, it is also from the paleontological and geological points of view a special place for scientists. You will be delighted by the warm and welcoming atmosphere that awaits you in the beautifully-renovated old farmhouse with its antique furniture and objets d’art. The rooms have all the modern amenities you could wish for, but the style, the décor, the atmosphere… let’s call it the spirit of the place will transport you back to the good old days when romance was still an idea to conjure with. Your stay at Zebra River Lodge is an opportunity to make new friends over healthy, farm-style meals around a big dinner table. Bread comes fresh from the oven, the vegetables are organic and the wines are specially selected to complement the delicious food. Stay on for a chat around the fireplace or step out onto the starlit verandah and let the caress of the soft breeze cool the tropical night.
